The Seasons and Other Cycles of Life

The Seasons and Other Cycles of Life (1988-1992) is a series of cybernetic wall sculptures that react to sounds made by the spectator. The responses consist of changes in the color and intensity of the light and the pattern and volume of the sound emitted by the sculptures. Although the nine pieces were conceived as part of a single installation, each functions independently of the others. They are constructed of acrylic plastic mounted on wood panels and employ fiber optics, incandescent lighting and electronic sound generators all controlled by a solid state feedback system.
